What is Nikasil Plating?

Nikasil plating is a composite coating made from nickel and silicon carbide. This combination creates a remarkably hard, wear-resistant surface that is ideal for engine components. It's a technology often used in high-performance applications like Formula One racing.

Benefits of Hyway's Nikasil Plating:

  • Exceptional Durability: Nikasil-plated cylinders are highly resistant to wear and tear, ensuring long-lasting performance.
  • Improved Heat Dissipation: The plating's properties help to efficiently dissipate heat, preventing overheating and maintaining optimal engine temperatures.
  • Reduced Friction: The smooth surface of a Nikasil-plated cylinder reduces friction between the piston and cylinder wall, enhancing engine efficiency and reducing wear.
  • Enhanced Performance: Hyway's Nikasil-plated cylinder kits are designed to meet or exceed OEM standards, providing improved power and performance.

Products arrived in well insulated package, no issues with shipping and delivery.  Price was also very affordable, and components were good quality for a STIHL saw.

3 of 5 Cylinder incomplete November 28, 2023

I’ve heard good things about hyway cylinders as far as quality but the MS 271 sthil cylinder is missing a long chunk of alloy that acts as a support spacer for the muffler to rest on after the muffler bolts are tight, bracing the muffler snug against the cylinder wall. My concerns are after awhile the vibration of the saw may start cracking the muffler where the bolts meet the cylinder.
Anyway its a flaw that i hope doesn’t give me troubles down the road.  There is a reason sthil put that there!!!
